TULSA, Okla.- The Wichita State women's tennis team finished
up play at the USTA/ITA Central Region Championships on Saturday at the Case Tennis Center.
In doubles play, No. 32 Veronika Blaskova and Lucia Kovalova
defeated Mia Lancaster and Zita Engbrok of Oklahoma, 9-8, in the round of 16.
The pair would fall in the quarterfinals however, to Petra Niedermayerova and
Ivana Kubickova of Kansas State, 9-8(6).
Kovalova, the only Shocker left in the main singles draw,
fell in her round of 16 match to Maria Cardona of Kansas, 6-2, 6-4.
The Shockers did not fair well in the consolation play,
as they were defeated in each of their matches.
The Central Region Championships were the last tournament of
the fall season for the Shocker women. They will begin their spring season on
Wednesday, January 16 when they head back to Tulsa, Okla. to take on Oral
Roberts.
