WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State women's tennis team will
head to Tulsa, Okla. on Thursday for a match against No. 23 Tulsa at the Case
Center.
Tulsa (3-1) is coming off their third win of the team season,
defeating No. 52 Memphis, 4-3, on Sunday, January 27. In doubles play, the
Golden Hurricane have the No. 8 duo in the nation in Samantha Vickers and
Isaura Enrique, and Vickers is also ranked in singles play, coming in at No.
124. The only match Tulsa has lost on the season so far was a 4-0 defeat at the
hands of No. 20 Clemson.
No. 64 Wichita State (2-3) tackled their first ranked
opponent of the season on Sunday, defeating No. 69 Stephen F. Austin, 4-2, in
the second round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
Freshman Rebecca Pedrazzi, the reigning Missouri Valley
Conference Tennis Athlete of the Week, leads the Shockers at the No. 2 singles
position. She is 10-5 on the season, including 3-2 in dual matches. She has
also won seven out of her last ten singles contests. Junior Montse Blasco
Fernandez boasts a 9-5 record in singles play this season.
In doubles play, Veronika Blaskova and Lucia Kovalova lead
the way at the No. 1 position with a record of 10-4, including 2-2 in dual
matches.
The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Live stats will be
