WICHITA, Kan.- The No. 65 Wichita State women's tennis team
will play host to No. 45 Kansas State on Saturday, February 23 at Wichita
Country Club.
The Wildcats (3-2) are coming off a 4-2 loss against No. 70 Columbia
on Saturday, February 16. In singles play, No. 17 Petra Niedermayerova who has
posted a record of 19-5, including a perfect 5-0 in dual matches this season,
leads them. She and her partner Karla Bonacic are ranked No. 26 in doubles play
and have a record of 10-6 on the season.
The Shockers (3-5) defeated UMKC 6-1 on Saturday, February
16. The Shockers captured the doubles point in the match and on at all three
positions. In singles play, freshman Rebecca Pedrazzi defeated Laura Bouet,
6-0, 6-2 at the No. 1 singles position to move her record to 12-6 on the
season.
Last season, Wichita State defeated the Wildcats 4-3 in
Wamego, Kan. by capturing four singles contests after falling in the doubles
competition.
The match will begin at 5 p.m. and free appetizers and a
cash bar will be available. It is also a part of Shocker Saturday, which means fans who attend the match along with
the men's and women's basketball games on Saturday will receive a pair of 2013
baseball and softball season tickets when they complete their Shocker Passport.
The Shocker Passport is free to all and will be available
for pick-up from the ticket office at Charles Koch Arena and Eck Stadium. Fans
will be required to present their passports at each event to receive a stamp
for proof of attendance. Upon completion, fans can return these passports to
the ticket office to receive FREE season tickets to Shocker baseball and softball
for the 2013 season.
