WTen: Shocks Win Over College of Charleston, 5-2

CHARLESTON, S.C.- Junior Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul defeated Katherine Scholfield in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to clinch Wichita State's 5-2 victory over College of Charleston on Monday at the College of Charleston Tennis Center at Patriots Point.

The Shocker women gained an early advantage in the doubles competition. First Rebecca Pedrazzi and Carla Venticinque defeated Samantha Maddox and Kelly Kambourelis, 8-3, then Veronika Blaskova and Lucia Kovalova took down Irene Viana and Katherine Schofield, 8-4 to put Wichita State up 1-0.

Before Mahajaroenkul clinched the match, Lucia Kovalova defeated Kelly Kambourelis after she retired after the second set and Montse Blasco Fernandez defeated Samantha Maddox, 6-4, 6-2. Julia Schiller also won at the No. 3 position over Brooke McAmis, 7-5, 4-6, 10-7.

"It was a very strong team win, and great competition across the board regardless of the scores," head coach Colin Foster said. "We had a few matches that we were behind in against gritty competitors and we didn't give an inch."

The Shockers will head to Columbia, Mo. on Sunday, March 24 for a match against No. 75 Missouri at 12 p.m.
