WICHITA, Kan.- Junior Montse Blasco Fernandez was named the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week today.

A junior from Tarragona, Spain, Blasco Fernandez helped the Shockers defeat College of Charleston 5-2 by taking down Samantha Maddox, 6-4, 6-2 in singles play. Against No. 59 Missouri, Blasco Fernandez grabbed the only point of the day for Wichita State by defeating Elisha Gabb, 6-3, 5-7, 10-8.

On the season, she leads the Shockers with a 16-8 record in singles competition, including 9-5 in dual matches. She has won three consecutive contests and seven out of her last ten.

Wichita State continues conference play on Saturday, April 6 when they travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa to take on UNI at 1 p.m.
