WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State men's tennis team will play their first Missouri Valley Conference matches this weekend when they host Creighton on Friday, April 5 and No. 23 Drake on Sunday, April 7 at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
Creighton (7-5, 0-1) defeated Hastings on Tuesday, April 2, 7-0. They fell in their first conference match a few days before to Drake, 6-1.
Drake (18-2, 1-0) has spent every week of the season in the ITA top-50. The Bulldogs have dropped two matches this season, a 4-3 loss to No. 33 Florida State in their first dual match of the season and a 4-2 loss to the No. 23 Harvard on Saturday, March 23. Anis Ghorbel as the No. 47 ranked singles player and has a 15-7 record on the season. No. 122 Alen Salibasic is 30-8 on the season and No. 123 James McKie is 29-7.
Wichita State (11-6) is coming off a 5-0 victory of UMKC on Monday, April 1. Matheus Pereira and Tin Ostojic continued their impressive dual match season in doubles play, grabbing win No. 13 over Grant Fleming and Tomas Patino, 8-5. They have won eight out of their last ten contests. In singles play, Erick Reyes won his eighth consecutive match, defeating Daniil Ivanov in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
The Creighton match on Friday will begin at 10 a.m. and the Drake match on Sunday has a 10 a.m. start time. Results will be posted on GoShockers.com following the completion of play.
