WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State women's tennis team will travel to Evansville, Ind. on Saturday, April 20 for a match against Evansville and Carbondale, Ill. on Sunday, April 21 for a match against Southern Illinois.
Evansville (8-9, 2-3) is coming off a weekend where they split two conference matches. They defeated Northern Iowa 4-3 on Saturday, April 13 and fell 4-3 on Sunday, April 14 to Drake. Marketa Trousilova is an impressive 14-1 on the season in singles competition and has captured six straight matches. In doubles play, Trousilova and Natasha James are 14-3 in dual matches.
Southern Illinois (16-3, 5-0) will look to battle the Shockers for the regular season Missouri Valley Conference Championship, as they are the only other undefeated team in conference play. The Salukis defeated Drake 4-3 and Northern Iowa 5-2 in last weekend's matches. Anita Lee is 19-8 on the season in singles competition, including 5-0 in conference play. Melanie Delsart is 12-7 in dual matches and 4-1 in conference play at the No. 1 singles position.
Lee and Korey Love are undefeated in doubles conference play and are 14-2 in all dual matches on the season. Delsart and Anastacia Simons are also stellar in doubles competition with a 4-1 record in MVC play.
Wichita State (10-10, 5-0) played their last home matches of the season last weekend, defeating Illinois State 5-2 and Bradley 7-0. Freshman Julia Schiller has won four consecutive singles matches and has a record of 10-5 since joining the team in January. She is also a perfect 5-0 in conference play. Montse Blasco Fernandez is 19-9 on the season in singles play, including 3-1 in conference play.
Rebecca Pedrazzi and Carla Venticinque lead the way for Wichita State in doubles competition with a record of 14-7 on the season. They are also undefeated in MVC play with a 4-0 mark. Blasco Fernandez and Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul are also unbeaten in conference play with a 3-0 record. They have captured five straight contests.
The match against Evansville on Saturday will begin at 1 p.m. and the Southern Illinois match on Sunday has a first serve set for 10 a.m. Results will be posted on GoShockers.com following the completion of play.
