WSU Receives Votes in CSTV/AVCA Preseason Poll

WICHITA, Kan. ? The Wichita State volleyball team received 14 votes in the CSTV/AVCA Top 25 Coaches' Preseason Poll, which was released Aug. 19.

The Shockers open the season on the road Aug. 29, at the Sooner Invitational in Norman, Okla. In Norman, Wichita State will face three teams in the top 25, or receiving votes in the poll, on the opening weekend of play. On the beginning day of the tournament, Wichita State will face No. 10 Cal Poly to kick off the season, then immediately take on tournament host Oklahoma in the nightcap. The Sooners received 15 votes in the preseason poll.

Day two of the season-opening tournament sees no break in ranked competition, as the Shockers square off against Michigan State at 11 a.m. The Spartans received 80 votes in the poll. The Shockers went 26-7 in 2007, highlighted by a 19-match winning streak. Wichita State is the only team from the Missouri Valley Conference to be named in the poll.

Penn State holds the No. 1 slot with 59 first-place votes. For the complete poll, go to www.avca.org.
