WICHITA,
Kan. – The Wichita
State volleyball team is ranked 18th in the AVCA Preseason Poll,
which was released Aug. 18. It is
the highest preseason ranking for the Shockers in the AVCA poll in school
history.
The
Shockers open the season on the road Aug. 28, at the Louisville Invitational in
Louisville, Ky.
WSU returns
six starters and 10 letterwinners to a team that went 30-2 in 2008 and advanced
to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Top
returners include 2008 Missouri Valley Conference Player-of-the-Year Emily
Stockman and MVC Freshman-of-the-Year Mary Elizabeth Hooper. Stockman averaged 3.65 kills and 3.07
digs per set, while Hooper averaged 10.47 assists, 1.28 kills and 1.94 digs per
set.
