Shocks Host BU and No. 22 UNI This Weekend

The Wichita State volleyball team hosts Bradley and No. 22 UNI this weekend in the final home matches of the season.  The Shockers (20-4, 11-3) play the Braves (9-19, 0-14) at 7 p.m. on Friday and play the Panthers (24-2, 14-0) at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Come out for Alumni Weekend as former Shocker volleyball players will be introduced on Friday night.  It is also Wichita Eagle Family night on Friday as fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs, four drinks and four popcorns for $32.

Come out on Saturday night for Senior Night.  The five Shocker seniors will be honored before the match at 6:50 p.m.

Both matches will be broadcast on KEYN 103.7 FM with Mike Kennedy calling the action.   

Scouting Bradley
The Braves are 9-19 overall and 0-9 in the Missouri Valley Conference and are coming off of losses to Illinois State and Indiana State over the weekend.  Wins this season have come against USC-Upstate, Chicago State, Lehigh, South Carolina State, Western Carolina, Coppin State twice, Montana State, and SIU Edwardsville.  Losses have come against IUPUI, Northern Illinois, Radford, UTEP, Western Illinois, Creighton, Drake, Evansville twice, Southern Illinois twice, Northern Iowa twice, Illinois State twice,  Indiana State twice, Missouri State and Wichita State.  BU is led by Amy Reichel's 2.59 kills per set, while Skylar Lesan is averaging 9.30 assists per set and Rachelle Dejean is averaging 2.87 digs per set.  The Braves are hitting .161 as a team while opponents are hitting .236 against them.  BU is led by second-year head coach Sean Burdette.

Series History vs. the Braves
Wichita State leads the overall series with the Braves 28-18.  WSU leads the series in Wichita 15-6.  WSU head coach Chris Lamb is 14-6 overall against the Braves and 7-2 in Wichita.  The Shockers have won the last 13 meetings overall. 

Last Meeting vs. BU
The last meeting between the two teams was Oct. 17, 2009, in Peoria, Ill.  The Shockers won by scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-16.  Emily Stockman led WSU with nine kills and 12 digs, while Kim Wadsworth had nine kills and Mary Elizabeth Hooper had 33 assists.

Scouting UNI
The Panthers are 24-2 overall and 14-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference and are coming off of wins over Indiana State and Illinois State over the weekend.  Wins this season have come against Virginia, Iona, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Middle Tennessee, Western Illinois, Robert Morris, Bowling Green, Green Bay, Drake, Creighton, Southern Illinois twice, Evansville twice, Bradley twice, Indiana State twice, Illinois State twice, Wichita State, Missouri State and South Dakota State.  Losses have come against Texas A&M and Iowa State.  UNI is led by Shannon Aschoff's 3.04 kills per set, while Bre Payton is averaging 10.62 assists per set and Ellie Blankenship is averaging 5.99 digs per set.  The Panthers are hitting .272 as a team while opponents are hitting .129 against them.  UNI is led by 10th-year head coach Bobbi Petersen.

Series History vs. the Panthers
UNI leads the overall series with the Shockers 38-11-1.  The Panthers also lead the series in Wichita 17-5.  WSU head coach Chris Lamb is 10-11 overall against the Panthers and 4-5 in Wichita.  The Shockers have won 10 of the last 12 meetings overall. 

Last Meeting vs. UNI
The last meeting between the two teams was Oct. 16, 2009, in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  The Panthers won in five sets by scores of 33-31, 25-20, 18-25, 22-25 and 18-16.  Emily Stockman led WSU with 25 kills, while Mary Elizabeth Hooper had 61 assists and Melissa Granville had 25 digs.

Last Time Out
The Shockers defeated Southern Illinois in three sets on Friday and defeated Evansville in four sets on Saturday.  Emily Stockman led WSU with 31 kills, while Mary Elizabeth Hooper had 98 assists and Melissa Granville had 36 digs.

Shocks 20th in RPI
The NCAA released its fifth official RPI list of the season on Nov. 9.  The Shockers are 20th.  WSU was 26th last week.  The Valley has three teams in the top-50 3-3 against the top-50.  Wins in the top 100 include North Carolina (47), Oklahoma (34), Missouri State (49), Louisville (63), Rice (58), Creighton (93) and Southern Illinois (87).  Losses in the top-100 include Pittsburgh (37), Missouri State (49), UNI (31) and Creighton (93).

Stockman Joins Elite Club
Senior Emily Stockman joined an elite Shocker club on Oct. 23 against Missouri State.  She now has 1,220 kills and 1,071 digs in her career as a Shocker.  She is just the seventh player in Shocker history to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career.  The six others include Kristin Carr, Becky Sutter, Sarah Larson, Janelle Watton, Jan Meloy and Sara Lungren.  On Nov. 7, Stockman became just the fifth player in Shocker history to have 1,000 kills, 1,000 digs and 100 service aces in her career.  She joins Becky Sutter, Janelle Watton, Sarah Larson and Sara Lungren in that category.

20 Wins
On Saturday at Evansville the Shockers won their 20th match of the season.  It is the seventh-straight year that Wichita State has won 20 or more matches. 

Wadsworth Has Career-High
Senior outside hitter Kim Wadsworth put together an impressive weekend for the Shockers.  She averaged 3.86 kills per set while hitting .283 on the left side.  On Friday at SIU, she had 12 kills and hit .346 and at UE on Saturday she had a career-high 15 kills.
