LINCOLN, NEB. -- Sophomore Audacia Moore shattered another school record, this time in the women's 200m dash, as the Wichita State University men's and women's track & field teams were at the adidas Classic on Saturday, Jan. 23.
"This was a good second meet for us," Steve Rainbolt, head men's and women's track & field coach said. "Audacia Moore was very impressive in her events and it was exciting to see us go 1-2 in the women's 3000m with Tonya Nero and Leah Thompson leading the way. The men's win in the 4x400m relay was also an exciting event for us and both the men and women's teams are coming together nicely."
Sophomore Cassie Craig, who moved up to eighth in the women's 60m hurdles in the first meet of the season last week, continued her climb up the charts as she now sits sixth after crossing the line in a time of 8.73 to place fourth. Senior Chris Allen also improved his time from last week by clocking in at 8.16 in the men's 60m hurdles (7th overall).
Craig also scored for the Shockers in the women's pole vault. Craig, who also hit an NCAA provisional mark last week at the WSU Varsity Apartments Invitational, was sixth at the adidas Classic with a top vault of 12' 3 ½". Aaron Young led the men's team in the pole vault with a third place finish. Young, who set a personal best last week, set a new top mark with a vault of 16' 2 ¾".
Sophomore Audacia Moore, fresh off her record setting time in the 60m dash, tied her school record time of 7.54 at the adidas Classic to led the field of eight. Moore is only .10 away from reaching an NCAA provisional mark of 7.44.
Moore wasn't finished with just the 60m dash as she again collected another first-place medal in the women's 200m dash with a time of 24.46, breaking a 15-year old WSU record. Todd McKown just missed tying his own top mark in the men's 200m with a time of 22.44, finishing 10th.
The men's 4x400 team of Nate Thiesfeld, Dylan Hartnett, Justin Smith and Chris Dickman edged out the Nebraska team with the Shockers crossing the line in a time of 3:15.20, compared to the Cornhuskers' 3:15.38.
Nero and Thompson led the Shocker women to victory in the women's 3000m as the WSU duo were the only runners with sub-10 minute times of 9:47.28 and 9:51.80, respectively.
In the women's long jump, junior Tish Brown, who hit an NCAA provisional mark in her last meet, placed second with a jump of 19' 8 ¼". On the men's side, Brandon Childs had a personal best jump of 22' 7 ¾" to finish fourth in the men's long jump.
In women's high jump, freshman Tanya Friesen tied a personal best by clearing a height of 5' 4 ¼" to place fourth. Childs was again the top finisher for the Shockers in the men's high jump, finishing fifth (6' 6 ¼").
Junior Danielle Walker moved into fourth place in the women's 800m run with a personal best time of 2:12.31 (4th place overall). In the women's 1000m run, senior Olivia Martinez knocked six seconds off her time from the WSU Varsity Apartments Invitational, finishing fifth with a time of 3:03.88.
WSU went 2-3 in the men's 400m dash as Dylan Hartnett and Nate Thiesfeld scored a combined 14 points for the Shockers. Hartnett's time of 48.85 sets a new season best while it was the first run in the 400m this season for Thiesfeld (49.19).
Senior thrower Bryan Tapia was 13th in the men's weight throw with a season best toss of 51' 7 ¼". Sophomore John Talbert set a new personal best in the men's shot put with a throw of 49' 10 1/2" to finish eighth overall.
Smith was the first Shocker to finish in the men's 600 yard run with the senior clocking in at 1:12.63. Senior Justin Cole was right behind Smith in fifth place with a time of 1:13.52.
Josh Crawford placed second in the men's triple jump with a mark of 48' 3 1/4".
