Scouting Southern Illinois
The Salukis are 15-14 overall and 4-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference.  They are coming off of a win at SEMO on Tuesday and have won their last six games.  Wins this season have come against Jacksonville State twice, Purdue twice, Santa Clara, Northern Illinois twice, UT Martin twice, Eastern Illinois, Creighton, Bradley three times and SEMO.  Losses have come against Arkansas State twice, Jacksonville State, Middle Tennessee twice, Purdue, San Jose State twice, UC Davis, Santa Clara, Murray State, Northern Illinois and Creighton twice.  SIU is led offensively by Blake Pinnon and Chris Serritella.  Pinnon is batting .364 with eight doubles, six home runs and 33 RBI.  Serritella is batting .360 with nine doubles, one triple, nine home runs and 33 RBI.  As a team, the Salukis are batting .321 with a team ERA of 6.89.  SIU is led by 16th-year head coach Dan Callahan.

Series History vs. SIU
Wichita State leads the overall series with Southern Illinois, 86-29.  The Shockers also lead the series in Wichita, 47-16.  WSU head coach Gene Stephenson is 51-13 against SIU head coach Dan Callahan.  The Shockers have won eight of the last nine meetings overall.

Last Meeting vs. the Salukis
The last meeting between the two teams was May 22, 2008, in the MVC Tournament.  The Shockers won the game 12-0 in seven innings.  Ryan Jones, Conor Gillaspie and Tyler Weber each drove in two, while Rob Musgrave pitched a complete game with five strikeouts.  The two teams did not meet in a regular-season series in 2009 due to an inland hurricane in Carbondale.
