Five Shockers Headed to Iowa

DES MOINES, Ia. -- The 2010 track & field season continues for five Wichita State University athletes as the Shockers will be represented in both the USA Junior Outdoor and USA Outdoor Championships beginning on Wednesday, June 23.

The Outdoor Championships will be hosted by Drake University at Drake Stadium.

Austin Bahner, Toby Boese, Tanya Friesen and Jake Wike will compete in the USA Junior Outdoor Championships while Trent Mazanec, the school's record holder in the javelin, will be competing in the USA Outdoor Championships along with Shocker throws coach John Hetzendorf.

Bahner and Boese redshirted the 2010 season and both will be competing as unattached.  Wike set a personal best in the 1500-meter run at the Oregon Relays, leading section-B with a time of 3:55.46.  Mazanec recorded a WSU record throw of 238' 1" at the Shocker Qualifier-1 after finishing second at the Missouri Valley Conference meet.
