Volleyball Announces 2010 Schedule

WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State head volleyball coach Chris Lamb announced today the 2010 volleyball schedule, which includes 12 home matches and three early season tournaments.  The Shockers will face three teams in 2010 that participated in the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

"We start off the 2010 season with a very strong tournament hosted by Oklahoma which also includes Miami and UT-Arlington," Lamb said. "That tournament along with ours and BYU's will test our team early before we get into Valley play.  We are very excited to begin our season and play in front of our outstanding fans."

The Shockers will open the season Aug. 27-28 at the Sooner Legends/Nike Invitational in Norman, Okla.  WSU will face two 2009 NCAA Tournament teams in Miami, Fla. And Oklahoma and will also play UT-Arlington in the tourney.

WSU will then open the home portion of its schedule on Sept. 3-4 by hosting the Spring Hill Suites Shocker Classic in Charles Koch Arena. WSU hosts Portland and Stephen F. Austin in the tournament.

The Shockers round out tournament play with the BYU Invitational in Provo, Utah, on Sept. 10-11.  Teams participating in the tourney include Houston, Loyola Marymount and BYU.

The only other non-conference match for the Shockers is a home match against SMU on Sept. 14.

The Shockers conference season gets underway on Sept. 17 on the road against Bradley. WSU will play 2009 NCAA Tourney participant UNI in Cedar Falls, Iowa on Sept. 18 and then host the Panthers on Nov. 19.

In 2009, WSU finished second in the Shocker record books in total attendance (37,594) and average attendance (2,892) and finished seventh nationally in average attendance.
