Women's XC Ranked 5th in Region, 39th Nationally

WICHITA -- The United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its regional and national rankings this week with the Wichita State University women's cross country team featured prominently on both lists.

The Shockers were picked fifth in the regional poll after a sixth place finish during the 2009 campaign.  The Shockers also garnered votes in the national poll with WSU pulling in three votes to place 39th overall.  Reigning national champion Villanova collected all 12 first-place votes to lead the national field with Florida State and Washington rounding out the top-three.

In the regional poll, the Shockers trailed Iowa State which held onto the top spot with Minnesota and Iowa falling in second and third place, respectively.  The Cornhuskers of Nebraska are ranked fourth, just ahead of WSU, while Missouri Valley Conference foes Illinois State (12th) and Missouri State (14th) find themselves in the top-15.

The next poll will be released on September 13.
