ST. LOUIS -- Senior cross country athlete Tonya Nero, who was named earlier today as the Wichita State University Athlete of the Week for August 30 - September 5, garnered her second award of the day when the Missouri Valley Conference selected her its Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week after the Trinidad and Tobago native won the 2010 John "J.K." Kornelson Gold Classic College/University women's 4K on Saturday, Sept. 4.
Nero, who was an all-region and all-conference performer in cross
country last season, captured the individual title with a course record
time of 13:30.81, almost a full three seconds ahead of the second place
competitor. Nero finished in the top-10 in four out of the six races
she competed in last season.
The Shockers will take a week off before traveling to Iowa City,
Ia., when they take part in the Iowa Invitational on Saturday, Sept.
18. The Iowa Invitational is hosted by the University of Iowa.
