WICHITA, Kan. -
Wichita State basketball fans will get their first look at the 2010-11 edition
of the Shocker men's and women's basketball teams, Sat., Oct. 16, at the annual
"Shocker Madness" celebration in Charles Koch Arena, which features an evening
of Shocker basketball, "Dig Pink" volleyball and the second annual Shock Cancer
Walk.
"Shocker
Madness" kicks off at 3:30 p.m. with the "Shock
Cancer Walk", a two-mile walk
through campus, led by head basketball coaches Gregg Marshall and Jody Adams,
to raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society and Breast Cancer
research. Student-athletes from the men's and women's basketball teams, women's
tennis and women's golf teams will also participate. Click here for more information.
At 5
p.m., Wichita State fans can enjoy the Shockers'
"Dig Pink" volleyball match against Evansville sponsored by Kansas
Surgery and Recovery Center. Cancer survivors will be recognized between games
two and three of the volleyball match. Any fan wearing Pink will receive a
discounted ticket for admission.
The
basketball portion of the Shocker Madness is free to all fans, and will begin
on Devlin Court with an autograph session for the men's and women's teams
followed by the women's basketball scrimmage.
Next,
there will be a presentation by representatives of the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational, where the men's
basketball team will open Nov. 22 against
Connecticut on ESPN2.
A
15-minute men's scrimmage will follow the presentation, and the evening will
culminate with a three-point competition and the slam dunk contest.
Concession
stands will be open and carry game fare, while men's and women's basketball season
tickets will also be on sale at the Shocker ticket office during the event.
Season tickets for men's basketball will not be
available for pickup as has been the case in previous seasons. They will be
mailed within the coming weeks.
