COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Wichita State Shockers sit tied for sixth place after day one of
the Johnnie Imes Invitational at The Club at Old Hawthorne. WSU carded a 28-over par 604 and is
tied with Colorado State. Texas
State is in first place with a 36-hole score of nine-over par 585 and has an
eleven shot lead over Florida International.
"Today was pretty good," WSU
head coach Tom McCurdy said. "We
had a good practice round and the girls created solid game plans for
themselves. As a result they
played with confidence and each of them had opportunities to score."
Gretchen Huhnerkoch
continues her strong fall season for the Shockers after she posted a three-over
par 147, good for a tie for eleventh place with four other golfers. Hannah Martin is in a tie for 23rd
place after she carded a seven-over par 151 and Natalie Samb is tied for 34th
at nine-over par 153. Krista
Pauisite of Texas State is the individual leader at two-under par 142.
"There will be some
challenging hole locations tomorrow so if we can play intelligently we have a
good opportunity to move up a few spots," McCurdy said.
The Johnnie Imes will
conclude tomorrow with the final round beginning with an 8:00 a.m.
shotgun. You can follow the action
