Men's Golf Tied for Second at Rio Pinar

 

Orlando, Fla. - An excellent first round and solid second round have the Wichita State men's golf team in a dogfight for lead at the Rio Pinar Invitational.  The Shockers are tied for second and just three strokes off the lead while Rafael Becker is challenging for the individual title.

Wichita State led the field after the first round with an 8-under 280at the 7,001-yard, par-72 Rio Pinar Country Club.  Becker and freshman Louis Cohen Boyer each fired off 3-under 69's in the first round to tie for second. 

Becker turned in another stellar effort in the second round and enters Tuesday's final round still in a tie for second. The junior carded a minus-5,  139 (69-70) over 36 holes  to match Central Florida's Jose Joia and to move two strokes back of the leader, Florida Gulf Coast's Alex Medinis. 

Boyer and Tyler Gann are neck-and-neck for sixth place at 141 (3-under). 

The third and final round begins with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. CDT. 

The Shockers are ranked No. 37 in the most recent GolfStat.com rankings.
