WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State women's tennis team will
travel to Arlington, Texas on Wednesday, March 21 to take on Texas-Arlington at
3 p.m. The next day, the Shockers will head to Dallas, Texas for a match
against Southern Methodist at 1 p.m.
Texas-Arlington (7-4) is coming into the match against
Wichita State off a win against No. 75 Boise State, 6-1, on Sunday, March 11.
The Shockers have an all-time record of 1-1 against the Mavericks.
SMU (1-9) is on a three match-losing streak, last losing to
Tulsa on Friday, March 16, 6-1. Playing in the number one position, junior
Edyta Cieplucha has a singles record of 8-2 in the dual match season. The
Shockers lead the all-time series against the Mustangs, 2-1.
No. 63 Wichita State (9-5) is coming off a very successful weekend
where they defeated No. 51 North Texas, 4-3, and Cowley County, 7-0. The win
against the Mean Green was the Shocker women's second win of the season against
a ranked opponent. The Shockers are now on a three match-winning streak and
have won six out of the last ten matches.
Sophomore Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul's play has inspired the
Shockers. She is 10-2 on the season, winning eight out of her last ten matches.
Mahajaroenkul was able to capture the Shocker 4-3 win against the Mean Green,
by defeating Paula Dinuta, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
After the matches against Texas-Arlington and SMU, the
Shocker women will travel to Manhattan, Kan. on Thursday, April 5, to take on
Kansas State.
