DALLAS, Texas- The Wichita State women's tennis team
defeated Southern Methodist University on Thursday afternoon, 4-2, at the Las
Colinas Country Club.
The doubles competition was not played in the match because
of weather, but the Shockers would not need the point to defeat the Mustangs.
The Shockers would put themselves in good position early,
winning the first three singles matches. Veronika Blaskova defeated Perri
Anderson, 6-0, 6-1, No. 108 Lutfiana Budiharto defeated No. 56 Edyta Cieplucha, 7-6,
6-1, and Delia Damaschin defeated Heather Steinbauer, 7-5, 6-1, to put Wichita
State up, 3-0.
Next, to seal the match for her team, Carla Venticinque took
down Kris Roberts, 6-2, 6-2.
The win for the Shockers is their second of the week as they
defeated Texas-Arlington on Wednesday, 4-3. Head coach Colin Foster is happy
with his team, "Even in matches that we lost, we are competing and playing
well," he said.
"We definitely can continue to get better but we are on the
right track and I'm very proud of their performance this week," Foster added.
The Shocker women are back in action on Thursday, April 5 in
Manhattan, Kan. to take on Kansas State. The match is set to start at 1 p.m.
