WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State women's tennis team will
travel to Manhattan, Kan. on Thursday, April 5th to take on Big 12
opponent Kansas State. The match will begin at 1 p.m. at the Wamego Recreation
Complex.
The Kansas State Wildcats (5-12, 1-5) are coming off a 5-2
loss to Texas on Sunday, April 1st. The Wildcats are very strong in
the first two positions. Playing in the number one and two positions
respectively, No. 32 Petra Niedermayerova and No. 89 Karla Bonacic each have a
record of 12-5 in dual match competition this season. The Wildcats will be
looking to end a five-match losing streak.
No. 68 Wichita State (11-5, 1-0) come into the match looking
for a win in their last non-conference competition of the season. They are on a
five-match winning streak and have won seven out of their last ten matches.
Senior Lutfiana Budiharto continues to be ranked in singles competition, coming
in at No. 79 in the most recent ITA rankings. She has won four consecutive
matches and eight out of her last ten. Sophomore Veronika Blaskova is 8-7 in
dual match singles competition for the spring season, winning three straight.
The Shockers look to continue to improve their doubles play,
and will have a chance to do that against the Wildcats, who are a combined
22-26 in doubles matches for the dual match season.
After Thursday, the Shockers will return home for weekend
conference matches against Evansville and Southern Illinois.
