WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State women's tennis team will take on two
conference opponents this weekend. The Shockers will take on Evansville on
Saturday at 1 p.m. and Southern Illinois on Sunday at 9 a.m. Both matches will
be played at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
Evansville (9-5, 0-1) is coming off a 6-1 loss to Southern
Illinois in their first conference match of the season. Aleks Dzakula, who is 11-3 in singles
competition during the dual match season, leads the Purple Aces. The doubles
combination of Natasha James and Dora Kotsiou is also 11-3, playing in the
number one position. Last year, Evansville finished in a tie for third place in
the Missouri Valley Conference.
Saturday will also be USTA Campus Kids Day at the Sheldon
Coleman Tennis Complex. There will be food, drinks, music, games, and prizes.
The festivities will begin at 1 p.m.
Southern Illinois (11-3, 1-0) is coming off a 6-1 win
against Chicago State on April 1st. They got their first conference
win of the season against Evansville on March 28th. Melanie Delsart
leads the Salukis with a singles record of 11-3 in the dual match season. She
has won eight straight singles contests and nine out of her last ten. The
Shockers defeated Southern Illinois twice last year, 7-0 during the regular
season and 4-0 in the MVC tournament. The Shockers have an all-time record of
26-9 against Southern Illinois.
