WICHITA, Kan.- Around 220 sixth graders from Goddard
Discovery Intermediate School got to meet their Wichita State student-athlete
pen pals they had been writing to throughout the school year today.
The sixth graders and around 120 student-athletes from a
variety of sports teams corresponded once a month since the fall, learning
about each other's lives through writing.
The sixth graders and their Shocker athlete pen pals met
each other in the morning at Charles Koch Arena. Then, the student-athletes showed
them around campus, took them to their classes, took them to the Rhatigan
Student Center to bowl and play pool, shot baskets at the Heskett Center, ate
lunch, and ended the day doing activities on the main court of Charles Koch
Arena.
Wednesday was the 15th year the Pen Pal day has
taken place.
