WICHITA, Kan.- The No. 58 Wichita State women's tennis team
will head to Omaha, Neb. to participate in the Missouri Valley Conference
Championship April 27-29.
The Shockers (18-5, 7-0) are coming off a very successful
regular season where they won the MVC regular season title for the fourth year
in a row. The Shocker women did not lose a singles match during conference play
and only gave up one point to their opponents, the doubles point against Evansville,
during the conference season.
Individually, all of the Shockers ended the regular season on
multiple match singles winning streaks, and will look to continue that success
into the MVC Tournament.
Reigning MVC Athlete of the Week Veronika Blaskova is
currently on a ten-match winning streak and has an overall singles record of
21-11 on the season. Senior Lutfiana Budiharto is ranked No. 82 by the ITA,
with an overall singles record of 22-5 on the season.
The Shockers are the number one seed for the tournament and
will play at 9 a.m. on Friday against number eight-seeded Bradley. The Shockers
defeated the Braves 7-0 in Peoria, Ill. earlier in the season.
If the Shockers are able to get by the Braves, they will
play the winner of Southern Illinois/Evansville on Saturday at 9 a.m.
