Tuliamuk won the women's 10,000 meters semifinal to advance to the NCAA Championships for the second-straight season. Her time of 33:31.54 at Mike A. Myers Stadium led the field of 48 competitors, as Tuliamuk ran away from the field about 24 minutes into the race.

Trudo advanced to the NCAA Championships for the fourth time in his career with his javelin throw Thursday in the event semifinals. His top throw of 233-2 in Austin gave him a sixth-place finish. The event's top 12 competitors advanced to Des Moines.

Tuliamuk and Trudo are part of a group of 25 Wichita State student-athletes competing in the three-day preliminary round in Austin for the chance to compete in Des Moines, Iowa at the NCAA Championships June 6-9.

Several other Shockers advanced a step closer to that goal Thursday.

Senior Danielle Chapman ran 2:07.82 in the women's 800 meters to finish fourth in her heat and 20th overall in the first round. She advanced to run in the event quarterfinals at 7:15 p.m. Friday in Austin.

Sophomore Natalie Morerod advanced to Friday's quarterfinals of the women's 400-meter hurdles. She finished 12th overall in the event preliminaries Thursday in 59.28 to qualify to run again in Texas at 7:45 p.m. Friday.

Senior Dylan Hartnett advanced to Friday's quarterfinals in the men's 400-meter dash, finishing 26th overall in the first round of the event Thursday. He recorded a time of 47.41 in Austin to qualify to run again at 6 p.m. Friday.

A handful of other Shocker student-athletes competed Thursday, but were unable to advance to the next round of their individual events.

Tanya Friesen finished 18th in the women's long jump with a top mark of 19-11 1/2 - a personal best that ranks sixth all-time at WSU. She entered preliminary competition having already qualified for the NCAA Championships in the women's heptathlon, so will still represent Wichita State in Iowa next month.

Jon Rizzo finished 21st in the men's javelin with a top throw of 209-8. Jake Wike finished the men's 1,500 meters in 4:13.22.

Audacia Moore and Shamoya Pruitt competed in the first round of the women's 100 meters, finishing in 12.03 and 11.91, respectively. Scarla Nero finished the women's 10K in 37:26.52.

The NCAA West Preliminary Round continues starting at 11 a.m. Friday with the women's discus.
