WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State head
volleyball coach Chris Lamb announced today the 2012 volleyball schedule, which
includes 12 home matches and three early season tournaments. The Shockers will face eight teams in 2012
that participated in the 2011 NCAA Tournament.
"We
are excited to have our home tournament again this season and to bring in high
caliber programs in Tennessee, Colorado State and BYU," Lamb said. "We also have a lot of difficult
non-conference matches along with the Valley schedule which features two
postseason teams."
The Shockers will open the season Aug. 24-26 at the NIU
Invitational in DeKalb, Ill. WSU will
face two 2011 NCAA Tournament teams in Northern Illinois and North Dakota State
and will also play New Mexico State in the tourney.
WSU will open the home portion of its schedule with the
Shocker Volleyball Classic Aug. 30-Sept. 2 inside Charles Koch Arena. The Shockers will host two teams that
participated in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, Tennessee and Colorado State, along
with BYU.
The Shockers round out tournament play with the SMU
Doubletree Classic in Dallas, Texas, Sept. 6-8.
WSU will face Texas State, a 2011 NCAA Tourney team, along with SMU and
Auburn.
The Shockers conference season gets underway on Sept. 14
in Des Moines, Iowa against Drake and open up conference play at home on Sept.
21 against Evansville.
The last non-conference match on the schedule is Oct. 3 at
2011 NCAA Tournament participant Oklahoma.
The other two 2011 NCAA Tourney teams on WSU's schedule
include UNI, who the Shockers play on the road on Sept. 29 and at home on Oct.
26, and Missouri State, who the Shockers travel to on Oct. 12 and host on Nov.
9.
In
2011, WSU finished sixth in the Shocker record books in total attendance (27,797)
and fourth in average attendance (2,527) and finished 10th nationally in average attendance.
