WICHITA, Kan.- Head men's tennis coach Brad Louderback
released the 2012-13 schedule today. It can be found in its entirety here.
The Shocker men will start their fall season September 14-16,
in Midland, Texas at the Midland Fall Invitational.
In the spring, the Shockers face seven opponents that
finished the 2011-12 season in the top 60, including Missouri Valley Conference
opponent Drake.
The Shockers will have three newcomers, Tin Ostojic, Alvaro Gutierrez and Ilija Cuic, joining four lettermen that helped them to a
16-6 record last season. Sophomore Tomislav Gregurovic returns after being
named Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year and All-Conference at the
number three singles position. Erick Reyes and Guillermo Nicol also return for
the Shockers. Reyes captured All-Conference honors at the number five singles position
and Nicol won the All-Conference award at the number two doubles position with
Gregurovic last season.
Louderback named the fourth letterman from last year, senior
Matheus Pereira, team captain.
"Everyone on the team has a tremendous amount of respect for
Mat and just natually look to him as a leader," said Louderback. "The only
negative thing he brings to our program is running out of eligibility
after this year."
Pereira finished last season with a 29-7 record, playing all
of his matches at the number one singles position. He has gathered over 70
singles victories in his career as a Shocker.
"I have witnessed some incredible moments watching Mat
represent and play for WSU over the past couple of years and he is one of
the fiercest competitors I have been around," added Louderback.
Pereira is ready to help lead his team in his last year as a
member of the Shocker tennis team.
"I think it is an honor to be selected
to be a captain of the tennis team," he said. "I will do all I
can to help the team and to motivate all of us to have an
excellent year."
