WICHITA - Wichita State University's Rafael
Becker was named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer-of-the-Week for the week
of Sept. 13.
Becker was the co-medalist at the
Diet Pepsi Shocker Classic, leading Wichita State to the team title of its home
tournament at the Wichita Country Club on Monday and Tuesday. The senior finished 8-under (68-67-70=205)
while battling through breezy conditions, especially during Tuesday's third
round. It was Becker's third career
tournament victory and a marked improvement from his 26th place finish at
2011's Shocker Invitational.
He now owns 11 top-10 finishes in
33 career tournaments. His 36-hole total
205 was the third-best mark of his career.
The Shockers won the tournament at 18-under (277-273-284=834), 16
strokes better than second place Kansas State.
This is the eighth career MVC
Golfer-of-the-Week honor for Becker, tying him for 6th all-time. One more weekly award would tie him for
second place, five behind the all-time leader, former WSU standout Dustin
Garza.
The Shockers next compete at the
Colorado State Ram Master Collegiate in Fort Collins, Colo. On Monday, Sept. 17
and Tuesday, Sept. 18.
