LAWRENCE, Kan.- The No. 32 doubles combination of Veronika
Blaskova and Lucia Kovalova captured the 'A' draw doubles title and three
Shocker women reached the finals of their respective singles bracket on
Saturday night at the Kansas Invite.
Blaskova and Kovalova defeated Julia Mongin and Brittney
Reed of Abilene-Christian, 8-3, in the semifinals before taking down Carli
Wischhoff and Ivana Kubickova of Kansas State, 8-6, to win the draw.
In the 'B' doubles draw, freshmen Summer Schlotterback and
Masa Smic captured third place by defeating Suzan Lisenby and Dimitra
Stavrianakou of UMKC, 9-8(1).
In the singles 'A' draw, Veronika Blaskova won by default
against Monica Pezzotti of Kansas. She will take on No. 14 Petra Niedermayerova
of Kansas State in the finals on Sunday.
Junior Carla Venticinque reached the finals of the 'C' draw
by taking down Brittney Reed of Abilene-Christian, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, and will play
Maria Jose Cardona from Kansas in the finals.
In the singles 'G' draw, Montse Blasco Fernandez defeated
Carmen Borau from Kansas State, 6-3, 6-2. She will play Kaysie Hermsdorf of
Abilene-Christian in the draw's finals.
Lucia Kovalova, Rebecca Pedrazzi, and Masa Smic all reached
the finals of their respective consolation brackets.
Freshman Summer Schlotterback continued her success in the
round robin bracket tournament, defeating Amy Barnthouse of Kansas, 6-4, 2-6,
7-6(6), in her second round matchup.
The Kansas Invite will conclude play on Sunday.
