LAWRENCE, Kan.- Seniors Hannah Martin and Natalie Samb
finished in a tie for eleventh place in the Marilynn Smith Sunflower
Invitational at Alvamar Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon.
Martin and Samb led the Shockers the whole way. After the
first two rounds finished on Monday, Martin was in a tie for 18th
place, and Samb was in 23rd. For the tournament, they finished with
an 18-over 234. Martin shot 78, 79, and 77 over the three rounds while Samb
shot 78, 80 and 76. Abigail Laker of Arkansas State finished in first place
with a 3-under 213(74-69-70).
For Martin, it is her second top-20 finish of the season
after finishing in a tie for ninth place at the Chip-N-Club Invitational two
weeks ago.
As a team, the Shockers shot a 963(326-323-314), improving
their team score from the Chip-N-Club Invitational by ten shots, to finish
alone in 10th place. Kansas, the tournament host, won the team
competition with a score of 906(303-298-305).
The Shocker women are back in action October 1-2, when they
head to Columbia, Mo. to take part in the Johnie Imes Invitational at Old
Hawthorne Golf Course.
