WICHITA, Kan.- Wichita State will host the 2012 Missouri
Valley Conference Women's Tennis Individual Championships this weekend, October
5-7, at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
The Shocker women's tennis team will look to repeat their
success from 2011, where they won championships in all but two singles flights
and two out of three doubles flights.
The No. 32 doubles combination of Veronika Blaskova and
Lucia Kovalova, coming off a doubles title in the 'A' draw at the Kansas
Invitational two weeks ago, come into the tournament with an undefeated, 4-0
record. They will compete in the flight 1 doubles bracket.
Along with Blaskova and Kovalova, other returners Montse
Blasco Fernandez, Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul and Carla Venticinque all bring MVC
Individual Championship experience.
Newcomers Rebecca Pedrazzi, Masa Smic and Summer
Schlotterback have all gotten chances to play so far during the fall season and
will be playing in their first MVC Individual Championships.
The tournament consists of seven singles flights and three
doubles flights, with the first six singles flights containing eight players,
one from each competing school. The seventh singles flight contains 12
participants. All three doubles flights contain eight teams each, one from each
school. Play will start each day at 9 a.m.
