WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State women's tennis team will
play for six championships on Sunday morning after day two was completed on
Saturday in the 2012 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Tennis Individual
Championships at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
In flight two doubles play, Carla Venticinque and Rebecca
Pedrazzi defeated Sam Anderson and Amanda Noonan of Creighton, 8-0. They will
take on Jennifer Dien and Natasha Tomishima in the final round of the bracket.
Juniors Montse Blasco Fernandez and Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul
will also go for a doubles championship on Sunday after they defeated Analese
Snyder and Karlin Naslund of Creighton, 8-1. In the flight three doubles
championship they will play Mariel Ante and Maddie Johnson of Drake.
In flight one doubles, No. 32 Veronika Blaskova and Lucia
Kovalova were defeated by Natasha James and Kelsey Costales of Evansville, 8-6,
but bounced back to take third-place by defeating Jennie Hartjes and Anna Kirshenbaum
of Creighton, 8-1.
In the flight two singles bracket, sophomore Lucia Kovalova
defeated Anita Lee of Southern Illinois, 7-5, 7-5 to move into the
championship round where she will play Phyllis Tigges of Illinois State. She
will look to capture her first MVC Individual Championship after finishing second
in the flight five bracket last season.
Freshman Rebecca Pedrazzi continued her early season
success, reaching the flight four singles final by defeating Emily Richardson
of Evansville, 6-2, 6-2. The win moves her to 5-2 on the season, and she will
take on Kadi Ilves of Illinois State on Sunday.
Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul defeated Ali Patterson of Drake,
6-0, 6-1, to reach the flight five singles final, where she will play Stefanie
Youngberg of Illinois State.
In the flight six singles bracket, Montse Blasco Fernandez
defeated Anastacia Simons of Southern Illinois, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 in the semifinals.
She will play Maddie Johnson of Drake in finals, where she will be going for
her second straight flight six singles MVC Championship after winning the same
flight last season.
Junior Veronika Blaskova took fifth place in flight one
singles, and fellow junior Carla Venticinque will take on Nell Boyd of Drake on
Sunday for third place in flight three singles. In flight seven, freshman
Summer Schlotterback will play for fifth place after defeating Monique Graf of
Bradley in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
The final day of the MVC Individual Championships will start
