SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- The Wichita State women's golf team shot
their lowest team score of the season to finish in fourth place at the
MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial on Sunday at Rivercut Golf Course. Freshman Bryce
Schroeder finished in fourth place, and senior Hannah Martin finished one shot
behind her, to finish in a tie for fifth.
The Shocker women shot a 54-hole score of 920 (313-298-309),
which is the fourth best score in Shocker history. Their second round score of
298 was also one of the top scores in the Wichita State record book, as it tied
the 2011-12 teams' first-round score at the Johnnie Imes Invitational.
Arkansas-Little Rock held their first place position after
day one to take the team title, carding an 895 (298-295-302).
Bryce Schroeder had her best tournament as a Shocker,
shooting a 224 (74-75-75). Schroeder's 54-hole score tied Catalina Guacaneme's
2005-06 score at the Marilynn Smith Invitational for fifth in Shocker history.
Senior Hannah Martin added to her impressive season so far, carding a 225
(76-73-76), which is the sixth best score ever shot by a Shocker women's
golfer. It is also Martin's second top-ten finish of the season.
Sophomore Daniela Rugeles finished in a tie for 27th in her
first action of the season with a 235 (81-73-81). Seniors Hollie Weatherburn
and Natalie Samb carded a 237 (83-77-77) and 245 (82-82-81), respectively.
Emelie Westrup of Arkansas-Little Rock finished in first
place with a 54-hole score of 218 (76-72-70).
The Shockers are back in action October 22-23 in Buies
Creek, N.C. for the Fighting Camel Classic at Keith Hills Country Club. It will
be the final tournament of the fall for the Shocks.
