WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State women's tennis team will
head to Tulsa, Okla., October 18-22, to compete in the 2012 USTA/ITA Central
Region Championships at the Case Tennis Center.
The Shocker women are coming off a strong performance at the
Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships two weeks ago, where they
captured four of the ten titles. Juniors Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul and Montse Blasco Fernandez took the flight three doubles championship, and were also able to
capture the titles in the fifth and sixth singles flights, respectively.
Freshman Rebecca Pedrazzi added the fourth title for the Shockers, as she won
the championship in flight four singles.
The No. 32 doubles combination of Veronika Blaskova and
Lucia Kovalova will look to bounce back after losing in the semifinals of the
flight one doubles bracket at the MVC Championships. During the 2011-12 season,
the pair made it to the quarterfinals of the Central Region Championships
before falling to the eventual champions, Marie-Pier Huet and Whitney Ritchie
of Oklahoma, 8-5.
Results and scores will be posted on GoShockers.com
following each day's competition.
