MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.- Two Wichita State men's tennis
doubles teams moved into the round of 16 in the doubles competition and three
individuals moved into the round of 32 in the singles competition at the
USTA/ITA Central Region Championships on Friday at the Baseline Tennis Center.
In doubles competition, after receiving a bye in the first
round, Alvaro Gutierrez and Matheus Pereira defeated Jonas Diercrx and Matt
Hagen of Iowa, 9-7. They will take on Badr Cherradi and Jonny Rigby of Southern
Illinois in the round of 16. Tin Ostojic and Erick Reyes will take on Abdul
Alawadhi and Tomas Patino of Missouri in the round of 16 after defeating Dusty
Boyer and Scott Elsass of Nebraska, 8-4, and Miguel Flores and Bobby Kidera of
Saint Louis, 8-4.
Tomislav Gregurovic and Guillermo Nicol were successful in
their first doubles match of the day, taking down Andrea Boglic and James Thorp
of South Dakota State, 8-3. The pair was unable to make it into the next round
however, when Rok Bonin and Leandro Toledo of Minnesota defeated them, 9-7.
In singles play, eight-seeded Matheus Pereira defeated
Missouri Valley Conference opponent Ben Mullis of Drake, 6-3, 6-2. Guillermo
Nicol defeated Richard Del Nunzio of Oklahoma State, 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-5, and
Erick Reyes defeated Tristan Jackson of Tulsa, 6-2, 6-1. All three of them will
play in the round of 32 on Saturday.
Sophomore Tomislav Gregurovic fell in his singles contest to
Rifat Biktyakov of Oklahoma State, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
Play will begin on Saturday at 9 a.m. Results will be posted
