Las Cruces, N.M. - The Wichita State University men's golf team surged into first place after two rounds of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, hosted by New Mexico State.  Hunter Sparks and Louis Cohen Boyer are tied for sixth place in the individual race.

The Shockers moved from third to first by the end of the second round behind solid contributions from Sparks and Boyer.  Sparks won last year's tournament and shaved two strokes off his first round score to end at 2-under (71-69=140) at the 7,074-yard, par-71 New Mexico State University Golf Course.  Boyer (69-71=140) was 2-under in the first round and delivered an even-par score in round two to remain in the top 10.

Rafael Becker (72-72=144) and Tyler Gann (74-70=144) were 2-over tie for 23^rd place and Calvin Pearson (71-75=146) tied for 34^th.  Chandler Rusk, competing as an individual, was also impressive, shooting 1-over (71-72=143) and tying for 17^th.

UNLV's Blake Biddle leads the individual standings at 6-under (68-68=136).  The Rebels are one stroke behind the Shockers in the team race.  Wichita State leads UTEP and Texas State by two strokes, setting up a highly competitive third round on Tuesday.  The final round begins with a 9 a.m. (CT) shotgun start.
