WICHITA, Kan. -
Wichita State closed its exhibition slate with a dismantling of Division-II
Pittsburg State, 100-56, in Charles Koch Arena.
Carl Hall led four Shockers in double figures with 23 points,
connecting on all seven field goals he attempted. Ron Baker added 17 points
including the final free throw for WSU to reach the century mark. Evan Wessel
and Nick Wiggins each added 13 points, respectively.
The Shockers opened the game on a 9-0 run that was capped by
Wessel's 3-pointer from the top of the key.
The Shockers maintained the nine-point lead to an, 18-9,
advantage before going on a 16-2 run fueled by effective full court defense and
transition offense including a breakaway dunk from Nick Wiggins.
Wichita State scored the final ten points of the first half
highlighted by a steal and dunk by Baker and a driving left-handed layup by
Demetric Williams as time expired to send the Shockers streaking into the
halftime break leading, 54-17.
The Shockers outscored the Gorillas, 46-39, in the second half
as head coach Gregg Marshall was able to empty his bench and get valuable
playing time for his younger players.
The Shockers open regular season play at home Sat., Nov. 10
against North Carolina Central inside Charles Koch Arena at 7 p.m.
