WICHITA, Kan.- Head women's golf coach Tom McCurdy announced
the signing of California native Samantha Stewart today.
"I am absolutely thrilled to announce that Sami will be
joining the women's golf team at Wichita State in the fall of 2013," said
McCurdy. "She is a very accomplished golfer who comes from a super family."
Samantha is currently ranked No. 73 in the Polo Junior Golf
rankings. She has had a very successful junior career, most recently capturing
the 2012 AJGA McArthur Towel and Sports Future Legends Championship with a
score of 221 (72-74-75). In 2011, Stewart won the 2011 Golfweek Junior Tour
Championship, carding a 145 (72-73).
Stewart also advanced to the round of 16 at the 2009
California Women's Amateur Championship, qualified for the 2009 USGA Women's
Amateur Public Links National Championship and the 2010 USGA Girls' National
Championship.
"Sami is a great ball striker and can hit a multitude of
shots. She has a great short game and is a very consistent player.
She's a rock solid student, as well," added McCurdy. "She fits right into
the vision we have at Wichita State of becoming the best women's golf program
we can be."
The California native is now living in Norman, Oklahoma. She
is the daughter of Tom and Sandra Stewart.
