WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State defeated Northern Colorado, 51-35, at Charles Koch Arena on Friday afternoon. The Shockers hosted its semi-annual Schoolhouse Rocks with the Shocks, which included over 9,000 students from area elementary schools.

The Shockers took a 20-19 lead at halftime despite shooting 24 percent from the field and 20 percent from behind the arc.  Wichita State gained the halftime lead by forcing 11 Northern Colorado turnovers. Wichita State had very even scoring in the first half, with Daurice Fountaine leading the way with five points on 2-of-3 shooting.

Wichita State went on a 7-0 run to start the second half, forcing three quick timeouts from Northern Colorado. The Bears responded with an 8-0 run going into the first media timeout to come within 29-27 with 14:32 remaining.

A layup from senior Jessica Diamond at the 12:34 mark sparked a 9-0 run and the Shockers never looked back. Senior Daurice Fountaine hit a jumper with 6:56 remaining to finish the game on a 9-2 run.  

Senior Jazimen Gordon and Diamond led all Shockers with 9 points each. Freshman Alie Decker led the Shockers in rebounding with six.

Wichita State shot 33.9 percent from the field and 21.4 percent behind the arc, forcing Northern Colorado to shooting 32.6 percent from the field and 22 turnovers.

The Shockers are next in action Saturday, Dec. 15 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Tip-off is slated for 2:05 p.m.
