WICHITA, Kan.- Wichita State Track & Field claimed victory in11 events on the second day of the Herm Wilson Invitational. Shocker student athletes captured first place in 14 total events during the two-day meet.

Reigning MVC Indoor High Jump Champion, J'Lynn Ledesma won the women's high jump and set a new indoor best by clearing the bar at 5-10. Freshman, Ashley Petersen took second place for the Shockers to kick off day two action.

Tanya Friesen claimed first in the women's long jump. Friesen's 18-10 leap bested her closest competition by 10 inches.

In the  men's shot put, WSU's Chris Dubree (51-10 ½) captured first place. Adam Esau (49-9) set a new personal best en route to third place.

The Shockers swept the medal stand in the women's 60m hurdles. Natalie Morerod (8.60) set a new personal best, and broke the meet record in the event.

Shanice Andrews  (8.70) established a new personal best and took second in the 60m hurdles. Freshman, Taylor Thomas (8.96) placed third in her first meet as a Shocker.

Morerod (24.94) also set a new personal record in the women's 200m dash, capturing her second 1st place finish of the day in the event. She also anchored  her 4x400m relay team to victory by .01 seconds.

The Herm Wilson Invitational then moved to distance events with the women's mile. Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton captured first place with a time of 4:56.22.

Kaitlyn McLeod  (5:04.36) cut 20 seconds off of her personal best to earn second place. Kayla Deighan (5:11.72) finished in third to sweep the medal spots for the Shockers.

Tuliamuk-Bolton (9:35.02) returned later and smashed both Herm Wilson Invitational and Heskett Center records in the women's 3000m.  Laura Burke, Elida Bailon, and Emily Hornbeck also finished in the top five for WSU.

Shocker Track Club's Danielle Chapman (2:52.20) broke her own Heskett Center and meet record in the 1000m. Marissa Harris claimed second for the Shockers.

In the men's 1000m race, Tomas Cotter secured first place with a time of 2:28.21. Freshman, Kain Anderson (2:33.99) placed second in his first race at WSU.

Samantha Shukla (2:20.71) added to the Shockers win total by besting the competition in the women's 800m. Returning All- MVC runner, Jake Wike  (1:55.40) edged out his counterparts to win the men's 800m.

Former Shocker MVC champion, Dylan Hartnett returned to win the men's 200m dash with a time of 22.41. Sam Glomstad- Foster (22.75) placed third in the race.

Shocker freshman, Brady Johnson (8:59) won first place in the men's 3,000m. Justin Scott (9:03) took second for Wichita State.

In the two days of the meet 1,165 people (325 Day , 838 Day 2)  came to the Heskett Center to watch WSU Track & Field compete.

Shocker Track is back on the attack the weekend of Jan. 18, when the team will compete in a pair of meets in Lincoln, Neb. WSU returns home Friday Feb.1 and Saturday Feb. 2 for the Varsity Apartments Invitational at the Heskett Center.
