WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State men's tennis team will play
host to Cowley College and Bethany on Sunday, February 3 at Genesis Health
Club.
Cowley will be playing their first match of the season after
finishing sixth in the national tournament in 2011-12. Head coach Josh Cobble,
the 2012 NJCAA Wilson/ITA Men's National Tennis Coach of the Year, returns two
of his top-eight players from last season.
Bethany will be playing their second match of the season, as
they will take on Barton County Community College at 10
a.m. on Sunday before they take on the Shockers. The Swedes went 22-4 last
season, including 8-0 in conference play and captured the KCAC title.
Wichita State (0-1) will be looking
for their first win of the season after falling to No. 8 Oklahoma, 7-0, on
Tuesday, January 22 in the first match of the team season. Senior Matheus
Pereira leads the Shocker men with a 6-5 record in singles play. Pereira and
his doubles partner Alvaro Gutierrez lead the way in doubles with a record of
10-4.
The Cowley match will start at 12 p.m.
and Bethany will follow at 4 p.m. Results will be posted on GoShockers.com following
the completion of play.
