AMES, Iowa- Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton shattered her own Missouri Valley Conference record in the indoor 5,000m run and posted the fifth fastest time in NCAA history at the Iowa State Classic.

With a time of 15:25.47, Tuliamuk-Bolton eclipsed her previous indoor record by over ten seconds. Her effort in the race earned her second place at the meet, behind defending national champion, Betsy Saina.

 Tuliamuk- Bolton now owns the second best time nationally with the top 16 runners qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships in March.

With a spot at the national meet likely clinched, Tuliamuk-Bolton will turn her attention to the MVC Indoor Championships where she looks to repeat as MVC Champion in the 3,000m and 5,000m.

On Friday, the Shockers men's distance medley team earned first place at the Iowa State Classic. The quartet of Jake Wike, Ryan Hocker, Kelvin Busienei, and Tomas Cotter bested their closest competition by nearly nine seconds to capture victory.

Wike returned on Saturday to claim second place in the men's mile. The senior ran a new personal record with a time of 4:08.45, less than half a second behind the winner.

Cotter (8:14.46) posted the new time to beat for the Valley in the 3,000m run this season. The reigning MVC indoor 3,000m champion also set a new personal best in the event, topping his previous mark by over ten seconds.

Wichita State also sent competitors to the Air Force Team Challenge in Colorado Springs, Colo.

J'Lynn Ledesma achieved her goal of a 6-0 jump. She set a new personal best by clearing the bar at 6-0 ½ in the high jump.

Ledesma also etched her name in the MVC record books with the best indoor high jump in conference history. 

Ledesma placed first in the event at the Air Force Team Challenge and now ranks 10^th in the nation in the high jump.

The junior also ranks first in the Valley this season in the event. She won the MVC Indoor High Jump Championship in 2012.

Shamoya Pruitt set a new PR in the 60m dash, finishing second. Pruitt's 7.57 sprint ranks her third in the Valley.

Chris Dubree won the men's shot put with a 56-3 throw. Dubree also ranks third in the MVC in this event.

In the men's high jump, freshmen Zach Budda, Garrett Lynch, and Kerry Graber set personal bests and claimed the top three spots on the MVC performance list.

Budda placed third with a 6-10 ¼ jump. Graber and Lynch both cleared the bar at 6-9 to place sixth and seventh respectively at the Air Force Team Challenge.

Shanice Andrews set a new personal record in the 60m hurdles. Her 8.54 performance earned her second place. Andrews has improved her PR in consecutive meets.

After setting the Shocker pentathlon record last week, Tanya Friesen established a new indoor long jump best with 19-4 leap. She took second place at the meet.

Courtney Reinke followed up her win in the triple jump at the Varsity Apartments Invitational, by setting a new indoor best in the event. She improved her previous record by three inches and now ranks second in the MVC in the triple jump.

Kiara Giles and Kristina Taylor swept the top two spots in the women's 400m. The Shocker women also finished first and second in the 4x400m relay.

Wichita State Track & Field will travel to both Lincoln Neb. and Norman Okla. next weekend for the Nebraska Tune-Up and the Sooner Invitational.

These meets will be the Shockers final competition by they battle for a conference title at the MVC Indoor Championships in Cedar Falls, Iowa Feb. 22-23.
