COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- The 26 Shockers competing at the Air Force Twilight Open fought for a chance to keep their season alive. With 64 roster spots available (32 men, and 32 women) for the Missouri Valley Confernce Outdoor Championships, performances at Air Force could decide who will make the conference roster.
In addition to competition for conference spots, the Shockers battler athletes from Air Force, Colorado State, Metro State, and Colorado School of Mines.
Sam Glomstad-Foster sprinted his way to a first place finish in the men's 100m dash by matching his PR of 10.91. Aaron Leung Woo-Gabriel (10.96) placed third. Leung Woo-Gabriel later won the 200m dash with a personal best of 22.16.
Alex Freshour posted the Shockers' highest pole vault of 2013 when he cleared the bar at 16-1 3/4. The junior earned fourth place with ths performance.
Bryce Fisher threw a person best of 52-2 in the shot put. The sophomore returned to set a new PR in the discus with a mark of 154-7.
In a close competition, Jon Martin placed second in the 400m hurdles, missing first place by .05 seconds. Martin did set a personal best with his time of 54.26.
On the women's side, Marli Bartlett posted a PR of 12.82 in the 100m dash. Bartlett also improved her personal best in the 200m with 27.27 sprint. Freshman, Lauren Pickens also bolted her way to a PR of 25.79 in the 200m dash.
Cassie Craig cleared the bar at 12-6 1/4 to set the Shockers best vault on the women's side. The senior earned second place, while teammate Cara Detmer (12-0 1/2) placed fourth.
In the women's javelin throw, Rachel Shearrer launched a new personal best of 119-9. Shearrer earned fifth place for her efforts.
With the regular season in the books, the Shockers will compete at the MVC Outdoor Championships, May 10-12. The MVC Outdoor Championship will be held in Des Moines where the Shocker women will try to win their third consecutive outdoor title.
