TF: Shocker Men and Women 2nd At MVC Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa- The Shocker men and women both finished second at the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships. Wichita State's women's team  finished with 165 points, 1.5 points behind the eventual champion, Indiana State.The Shocker men took second with 168.50 points, 30 points behind the place Sycamores.

Competing in her final conference meet, Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton won her 13th MVC Championship by placing first in the women's 5,000m run. Tuliamuk-Bolton's time of 16:43.64 bested the field by 11 seconds.

Tomas Cotter became a four-time MVC Champion when he won the men's 1,500m run with a time of 3:50.02. Cotter won the 3,000m Steeplechase the night before.

Courtney Reinke finished second in the women's triple jump with a leap of 41-6 ½. Reinke set a new personal record with this jump as she earns All-MVC honors for the fourth time.

In the women's discus throw, Mariah Garcia captured second place with a throw of 174-9. Her throw was a centimeter behind the eventual winner.

Alex Freshour matched his personal best of 16-3 ¼  in the pole vault to take second place. Freshour scored eight points for the Shockers with this effort.

The Shocker men's 4 x100m relay sprinted their way to second place with a time of 41.68.  Aaron Leung- Woo Gabriel, DJ Lindsay, Sam Glomstad-Foster, and Grant Ralston earned silver medals for their performance.

Alex Reed earned second place in the men's 400m run with a time of 47.94. After running a personal best of 47.94 in the preliminaries, DJ Lindsay took fifth with a mark of 48.27.

Ryan Hocker claimed the bronze medal in the men's 800m run with a time of 1:52.48. The junior contributed six points to the team total.

In the women's 400m hurdles, Natalie Morerod bolted her way to a second place finish, crossing the finish line in a season best time of 59.19. Freshman, Taylor Thomas (1:00.76) moved up to take fifth.

Lindsay returned to claim third place in the men's 200m dash. Lindsay's time of 21.92 earned him a bronze medal.

Shazz- Michael Lindo took third in the men's triple jump with a leap of 48-1 1/4. Lindo earns All-MVC honors in both the indoor and outdoor season as a freshman.Blake Glasgow-Willard jumped 46-11 3/4 to earn fifth place. 

In total the Shockers earned six individual MVC Outdoor Championships, and delivered 26 All-MVC performances. The seniors on the Shocker women's team graduate with five MVC Championships. 

The Shockers will enjoy a week without competition before they travel to Austin, Texas for the NCAA West Regionals. May 23-25. Every Shocker ranked in the top 48 in the region will compete at the NCAA prelims.
