Peterson Named Newcomer of the Year
Junior relief pitcher Brandon Peterson has been named Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year. Peterson, a junior from Savage, Minn., is 3-1 this season with nine saves and a 1.24 ERA. He is the second Shocker to win the award joining Preston Springer who won it in 2010.

Eight Shockers Named All-Valley
Eight Wichita State baseball student-athletes have been named to the 2013 All-Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Team, as voted on by the league coaches.  
Sophomore utility player Tyler Baker and junior relief pitcher Brandon Peterson were named to the first team, while junior starting pitcher Cale Elam, sophomore first baseman Casey Gillaspie, and junior outfielder Garrett Bayliff were named to the second team.
Junior shortstop Erik Harbutz, junior relief pitcher Albert Minnis and junior relief pitcher Aaron LaBrie were all named to the honorable mention team, while Gillaspie and Bayliff were also named to the All-Defensive Team.

MVC Tourney History
Wichita State will be making its 36th-straight appearance in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.  The Shockers have won 17 tournament titles and own a tournament record of 95-43-1.  WSU last won the tournament championship in 2009.
 
Shockers vs. Salukis
Wichita State is the No. 2 seed in the MVC Tournament and will face No. 7 seed Southern Illinois in the first round.  The Shockers are 20-8 all-time against the Salukis in the MVC Tournament. It is the second-straight year that WSU has faced SIU in the first round of the tournament.
 
Bayliff Named MVC Player of the Week
Wichita State baseball student-athlete Garrett Bayliff has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player-of-the-Week for the week of May 13-19.
Bayliff led the Shockers to a 3-1 week and went 11-for-15 (.733) with four RBI, a walk and three stolen bases. He had multiple hits in all four games.
Against No. 16 Oklahoma State, he went 3-for-3 with an RBI, a walk and a stolen base. In game one against Northwestern, he went 4-for-5 with three RBI and a stolen base. The four hits was a career-high for him. In game two against the Wildcats, he went 2-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt and in game three, he went 2-for-4 with a stolen base. He is now hitting a team-best .381 going into the MVC Tournament.
