ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- ESPN notified the Missouri Valley Conference that the Wichita State at Bradley men’s basketball game, originally selected for ESPN3 clearance, will air on ESPN2 on Tuesday, February 25, at 8 p.m. Central, MVC Associate Commissioner Jack R. Watkins announced today.
On February 25, 2nd-ranked Wichita State -- 25-0 overall and 12-0 in league action -- travels to Carver Arena in Peoria, Illinois, to meet Bradley --11-14 over- all and 6-6 in MVC play.
Wichita State took the first meeting between the two schools on January 14, when the Shockers raced to a 40-23 halftime lead, before finishing with a 72- 50 win over Bradley at sold-out Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kansas.
The game was originally slated for airing on ESPN3 -- ESPN’s live multi-screen sports network which is available via the WatchESPN app.
“We are in the third year of our current agreement with ESPN, and ESPN3 continues to have both direct and indirect benefit for the Missouri Valley Conference,” said Watkins.
“The transition of an ESPN3 telecast to another ESPN network platform, though, is a first for us. Since this contest was already selected for ESPN3 exclusively, ESPN had the rights to the game which made the transitional process a smooth one.”
By contract with ESPN, the league receives a total of eight regular-season appearances on either ESPN or ESPN2, eight telecasts (six of which are men’s basketball) on ESPNU and a total of 12 regular-season basketball telecasts on ESPN3. The Valley and ESPN also partner to clear four volleyball tourney matches and a minimum of 12 baseball tournament telecasts ESPN3.
The Wichita State-Bradley telecast begins the final week of MVC regular season men’s basketball action.
The week will culminate on Saturday, March 1, when Wichita State plays host to Missouri State in a telecast shown on either ESPN or ESPN2 (network and tip time to be determined within next 7-10 days) and Indiana State entertains UNI in a noon Central telecast on ESPNU.
