DeKALB, Ill. - Wichita State hit .353 as a team on the way to a 3-0 win over North Dakota State. The Shockers (2-1) won by scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-23.
Ashley Andrade led the Shockers with 11 kills, while Emily Adney added 10 kills. Chelsey Feekin had five kills, 33 assists and seven digs, while Jackie Church had 12 digs.
A service ace by Emily Adney put the Shocks in front 6-3 in the first set, but a 3-0 run by the Bison tied the score at six. A kill by Ashley Andrade gave WSU a 9-8 lead and WSU never looked back. A kill by Chelsey Feekin increased the lead to 17-12 and WSU went on to win the set 25-18.
The second set was similar to the first. NDSU had just one lead at 1-0 and after a 3-3 tie, the Shockers went up 9-6 on a kill by Sam Sanders. A kill by Elizabeth Field put the Shocks up 17-12 and WSU cruised to the 25-16 win.
WSU took a 16-10 lead in the third set on a setting error by the Bison, but NDSU pulled to within two at 20-18 after a WSU hitting error. The Bison used a service ace to make the score 23-22, but a kill from Feekin ended the set with a 25-23 WSU win.
Field and Church were both named to the all-tournament team.
The Shockers are next in action on Thurs., August 30 when they host Colorado State at 7 p.m. inside Charles Koch Arena.
