LONDON- Wichita State men's tennis volunteer assistant coach Nick Taylor defeated Shota Kawano of Japan in the first round of the quad singles division at the 2012 Paralympic games on Sunday.

Taylor was able to defeat Kawano in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5, to move onto the quarterfinals where he will take on Anders Hard of Sweden. Hard defeated his opponent, Andy Lapthorne 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 on Sunday.

Taylor and his partner David Wagner, earning a bye for the first round, will start the defense of their gold medal from the 2008 games on Monday. They will take on Noam Gershony and Shraga Weinberg of Israel in the semifinal round of the quad doubles division.
