WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State improved to 12-5 on the season with a 3-1 win over Illinois State. The Shockers (12-5, 5-2) won by scores of 20-25, 26-24, 25-21 and 25-16.
Emily Adney led the Shockers with 22 kills, while Chelsey Feekin had seven kills, 43 assists and 13 digs and Jackie Church had 21 digs.
The Redbirds jumped out to a 13-8 lead in the first set, but the Shockers used a 3-0 run to pull within 13-11. A 4-0 Shocker run gave WSU a 16-15 lead, but ISU scored four of the next five points to go in front 20-17. The Redbirds closed out the set with a 25-20 win.
The Shocks jumped out 9-3 in the second set, but the Redbirds scored four-straight to make it 9-7. Seven-straight Redbird points gave ISU a 15-12 lead, but the Shockers came back to tie it at 20 on a kill by Adney. Kills from Elizabeth Field and Feekin put WSU up 22-20, but ISU tied it at 23. ISU reached set point at 24-23, but the Shockers scored the final three points to win 26-24.
The third set went back-and-forth until a kill by Ashley Andrade gave WSU an 18-15 lead. WSU scored four of the final five points to take the set 25-21.
The two teams raced out to a 10-10 tie in the fourth set, but the Shockers used a 7-1 run to take a 17-11 lead. WSU finished off the set on a kill by Feekin for a 25-16 win.
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Oct. 6 against Indiana State at 7 p.m.
